Surveying the load before updating power distribution equipment
When electrical distribution equipment is updated, that process involves more than simply replacing equipment that’s decades old with new equipment.
It’s necessary to conduct a preliminary study of current conditions and redesign the equipment for the following reasons:
- Revisions to applicable laws may necessitate design changes.
- You may not understand the load conditions due to a lack of circuit schematics.
- Electricity consumption may exceed the assumptions underlying the original design, causing the circuit to be close to its capacity.
- There may be less electricity demand than was assumed by the original design, resulting in surplus equipment.
- Equipment may have been added without updating the circuit schematics.
As a result, you should conduct a preliminary study by measuring fluctuations in each branch circuit’s load current for about one week.
Reasons for using GENNECT One
When making measurements over an extended period of time, you may need to visit the measurement site numerous times, for example to check conditions during measurement or collect data.
Since by using GENNECT One you can check and data and control the instrument from your office PC, you can streamline measurement by without visiting the field.
Studying an electric room with a LAN connection
GENNECT One can only communicate with instruments that are connected to your LAN. In other words, your electric room would need a LAN connection.
If you don’t have such a connection, you can connect to GENNECT Cloud to log measurement data on the service’s cloud server. See below for details.
You can free yourself of the trouble of visiting the field.
- Check measured values in real time.
Log measurement data from up to 30 instruments at an interval as short as 1 s.
Measurement from multiple instruments can be aggregated into a single graph.

-
Log all electric energy by adding up power values.
Use the channel calculation function to add up electric energy values. Calculation results can also be logged. -
There’s no need to operate instruments in order to collect data.
Data is automatically collected and saved on your PC.
- You can change instrument settings remotely.

Instruments used: Power meter
The Clamp On Power Logger PW3360/PW3365 is a power meter that can measure power.
If there are numerous branch circuits and few fluctuations in voltage and power factor, you may be able to assess the trend in load fluctuations by measuring only current. The PW3360 and PW3365 can also be used as 3-channel current loggers.
You can choose to monitor maximum, minimum, average, or instantaneous values.
If your electric room doesn’t have a LAN connection (GENNECT Cloud)

If your electric room doesn’t have a LAN connection or is located off-site, you can send measurement data to the service’s cloud server.
When you connect to GENNECT Cloud, logging data will be saved on the service’s cloud server. The logging interval is fixed at 1 min.
You can log in to GENNECT Cloud to review logging data from anywhere, at any time.
